About This Counter: Department of Defense (FY2014)
This counter displays estimated fiscal 2014 funding for the Department of Defense base budget. To calculate this number, we take budget subfunction code 050 (the Department of Defense) and subtract money spent for military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as nuclear weapons and the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, in order to avoid double-counting, because these items appear as separate counters.
Sources: White House Office of Management and Budget, historical tables and public budget database; Comptroller, Department of Defense.
Note: This counter does not reflect the across-the-board cuts of sequestration that were implemented on March 1, 2013.
