Each year, as part of the president’s budget request, the White House Office of Management and Budget releases projected spending on grants to the 50 states. This is a reminder of the impact of federal spending on state budgets as well as on state residents, who receive assistance from the programs funded by federal grants.
You’ll see that some programs, like Head Start and Temporary Assistance to Needy Families, received small across-the-board cuts. Some programs, like the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, will be cut deeply in fiscal 2013. Other programs, like National School Lunch and Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers, are slated for funding increases.
Use these tables to see changes in federal grants to your own state for fiscal year 2013. And if you don’t see a program you’re interested in, write to us and let us know. We may be able to get you precisely the numbers you’re looking for.
The National School Lunch Program, run by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, subsidizes school lunches and snacks and mandates nutrition standards and poverty guidelines for free and reduced-cost lunches.
