Budget 2016 Update: No budget resolution yet

In addition to being tax day, yesterday was the official deadline for the House and Senate to come to an agreement on a budget resolution that would set overall spending levels for the federal government's discretionary spending in FY 2016 (Step 2 in the graphic above).

But yesterday's deadline wasn't binding, and it came and went without much drama, and without a deal. While the separate House and Senate budgets that passed already met on some not insignificant details -- like the level of overall Pentagon and related spending, including war spending -- there are quite a few others left to be worked out.

The House and Senate may reach a deal over the next couple of weeks -- or they may not. We'll keep you posted.
